No eyes, not blind!

Our study highlights how light influences the behavior of seven phytoseiid mite species, key predators used in agricultural pest control. While Phytoseiulus persimilis showed a strong preference for light, other species exhibited no significant phototactic tendencies. Oviposition preferences varied, with some species favoring dark sites to protect eggs from UV damage, while others preferred light or specific substrates like threads. These findings provide valuable insights into their ecological adaptations and offer practical strategies to enhance their effectiveness in sustainable pest management.
